Common Conditions We Treat
Urinary Incontinence:
Uncontrolled leakage of urine can be very embarrassing. Some women with this problem avoid activities they enjoy for fear of needing to go to the bathroom. Others spend a lot of money on pads and sanitary products. There are different causes and treatments available ranging from lifestyle modifications, to pelvic floor physiotherapy, medical devices and surgery.
Recurrent UTIs:
Some women are more prone to bladder infections. The only way to know if you have a true bladder infection (urinary tract infection) is to have your doctor send a urine sample for culture to the laboratory where they will grow the bacteria. Results take 2-4 days. Treatment for this condition includes prevention strategies as well as antibiotics only when required.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse:
A bulge coming through the vagina is a very common condition in women. Thankfully, it is not medically dangerous and if not bothersome to the woman, does not need to be treated. However, if it interferes with certain functions and activities and is bothersome, there are many treatment options we offer.

Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause:
It is very common for the vulvar, vaginal and bladder tissues to thin out after menopause due to the low hormonal environment. This condition, previously called “vaginal atrophy” is now termed GSM. When this low hormone state occurs after delivery of a baby while breast feeding, it is called “genitourinary syndrome of lactation” as the symptoms are the same. Patients may experience dry vagina, urinary urgency and frequency, vaginal discomfort, burning, recurrent bladder infections and pain with intercourse. There are now many effective and safe options available.
Clitoral adhesions:
Patients may experience pain in the clitoral area, or, have decreased sexual sensations. This may be due to the clitoral glans being covered with skin and can be caused by various conditions including lichen sclerosus. We offer medical and surgical treatment of this condition.
Bladder Symptoms:
There are many bladder symptoms that women find bothersome. These can include a slow stream, difficulty emptying urine, urinary urgency, voiding frequently and getting up several times per night to empty the bladder. Our team will investigate these symptoms with you and devise a treatment strategy.

Interstitial Cystitis:
Also known as Bladder Pain Syndrome. A bladder inflammation condition that mimics the symptoms of recurrent bladder infections. Our team will diagnose and offer treatment options for this chronic condition.
Fecal Incontinence:
Accidental bowel leakage can result in loss of control of gas or stool.

Mesh Complications:
In pelvic floor reconstructive surgery, a more supportive material such as mesh may be an option you and your surgeon will discuss. As with all surgeries, mesh has a risk of complication. Our team of surgeons all have specialized expertise in mesh complications and mesh removal.

Chronic Pelvic Pain and Dyspareunia:
Pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis, vagina and vulva may be there constantly, or only occur during sexual activity. We work with women to fully understand their condition and find strategies and treatments to improve their quality of life.

Deinfibulation procedures:
The World Health Organization states that Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a traditional harmful practice that involves the partial or total removal of external female genitalia or other injury to female genital organs for non-medical reasons. FGM has no health benefits. It can lead to immediate health risks, as well as long-term complications to women’s physical, mental and sexual health and well-being. The practice is recognized internationally as a violation of human rights of girls and women and as an extreme form of gender discrimination, reflecting deep-rooted inequality between the sexes. Patients who may wish the vulva reconstructed are welcome to come in for a surgical consultation.

Transgender Care:
Navigating our healthcare system to access gender affirming surgery can be challenging. We offer before-and-after surgical care in addition to many other medical services.
